Synopsis:
SHISHIMAI music video for Osaka-based 99letters latest single on DISCIPLES records.
SHISHIMAI (獅子舞) is the traditional Japanese lion dance, a performance using a wooden lion mask commonly performed during the New Year to bring good luck.
The track from 99Letters samples traditional Japanese instruments, and so to mirror this the video manipulates footage of the Shishimai performance and modern day Osaka, with analogue and digital techniques for the video.
The first half of the video is degraded using pixel sorting and visual synthesis, then this was run through an Artificial Intelligence to create the second half of the video. The director then printed each frame using eco-inkjet on recycled paper and further degraded the frames using natural materials.
