Synopsis:
Dream Factory is an experimental short that explores the historical role of cinemas as cruising sites, as well as the relations between nostalgia and fetish when navigating queer history, cultural memory, and the tactility of the past. Taking place within an abandoned cinema, Dream Factory recreates the experiences – both real and imagined – which have occurred within the venue. It soon becomes a space that’s haunted by experience, unstuck in time, as well as a space where physical connections become imaginable. Given how cruising and porno-theatres have become scarce within a gentrified and digital landscape, the film hopes to recover these public intimacies – moments of physical connection and abandon – while reviving cinema’s ghosts in a spectacle of gender and genre confusion.
